Gardens & Art in the West of England
April 29 - May 4, 2018
6 days | 5 nights
Our insider tour in Somerset and Devon features private visits to historic and contemporary gardens guided by owners or their head gardeners. Architectural settings range from a medieval moated manor to 21st century restorations of vernacular stone farm buildings. Highlights include gardens designed by Arne Maynard, Dan Pearson and Piet Oudolf, the visionary designer of New York’s High Line. We also have an exclusive visit to internationally acclaimed gallery Hauser & Wirth Somerset. Another innovative art center, where we have lunch with the founder, is recognized for its pioneering presentation of monumental sculpture in a rural setting. Artists represented here include Barbara Hepworth, Antony Gormley & Richard Long.
Relax first in Somerset at a boutique luxury country house hotel. Set on 18 acres of rolling parkland with an expansive walled garden, it has great atmosphere, a spa and heated indoor pool. Our Devon hotel is a comfortable Elizabethan manor house nestled in a secluded valley. Both hotels specialize in seasonal farm-to-table dining from their own notable kitchen gardens. There are many opportunities to unwind, and for those who wish to take a break from the itinerary, optional activities such as spa treatments, hiking or golf can be arranged.
